As posted above have a look at the Breeze theme much better optimised than the base luma theme. With some tweaks you can obtain 100 google page score which is almost impossible with luma and other themes.

Agreed. Core migration has come a long way since this module was created almost completely redundant now maybe in a few select use cases but for the most part core is better option
