What's new?
System plugin to notify you of leftovers after restoration. You should never leave Kickstart, the backup restoration script, your backup archive, or arbitrary ZIP files in your site's root. It can be a security risk for most sites. We are now checking for these potentially dangerous leftovers and notify you right in your Joomla control panel if that's the case.

Site Transfer Wizard now uploads Kickstart under a random filename. The Site Transfer Wizard now uploads Kickstart using a randomly generated filename to make it harder for an attacker to guess its location and potentially abuse it.

New archive extraction script (based on Kickstart 9). The integrated restoration is now based on Kickstart 9. The copy of Kickstart used by the Site Transfer Wizard has also been updated to Kickstart 9.

PHP 8.5 compatibility. We are now developing and testing the software on PHP 8.5. There might still be a few deprecated notices, but these either come from third party dependencies which have not addressed them yet, Joomla itself, or are linked to code we need to include to maintain compatiblity with older Joomla versions.

Lots of Joomla 6 compatibilty improvements. This release includes workarounds for core Joomla bugs introduced in Joomla 6, as well as addressing the fact that the fixes Joomla documented for some backwards incompatible changes –and which we included in our previous releases– were not entirely accurate.

Improved support for moving a site between MySQL and MariaDB. Even though MariaDB is nominally compatible with MySQL, there are some subtle differences. Our database restoration has always included code to address these differences. One of the more confusing ones is the difference between the supported database collations in newer MySQL and MariaDB versions, mostly because these are badly documented for both MySQL and MariaDB. We identified the discrepancies we didn't already cater for and addressed them, so you can now move your site from MySQL to MariaDB or vice versa.
