You can try: SP Upgrade
SP Upgrade supports transferring between the various Joomla! versions as below:

1.5 -> 2.5
1.5 -> 3.x
1.5 -> 4.x
1.6 -> 2.5
1.6 -> 3.x
1.6 -> 4.x
1.7 -> 2.5
1.7 -> 3.x
1.7 -> 4.x
2.5 -> 3.x
2.5 -> 4.x
3.x -> 3.x
3.x -> 4.x
4.x -> 4.x

  • Joomla version 3.x and 4.x supported, refers to all releases of Joomla 3 and 4

Nd2022 is right, it seems this is the most efficient way to migrate.

but I recommend manuel copy paste if you have lower than 50 articles

Before upgrading of course you need to check all the plugin's versions and be sure that those will be operational in the new version of Joomla!.

Maybe if the website is not so big, it's better you do manually

Not only the extensions need to be compatible with the version of Joomla that you are going to update to, but also the template!

I did some upgrades in the past and it is a tough job...

This is very correct.

With "SP Upgrade" component successfully can migrate only articles, article categories, tags, menus, etc.
The old extensions and templates need to be replaced with compatible ones.

As far as I know, there isn't some automatic way. You could try to find emigration from 1.x to 2.x and from there to 3.x but unless your website is really huge you might be better off doing it by hand. o_O

For J1 to J3 upgrade I used Vmupgrade, as it was called then, from company DayCounts. And yeah, it worked, on several occasions. For other components it was necessary to use PHPMyAdmin.
