Wordpress has far more plugins available and the number of hooks is amazing. Much easier to manipulate with little effort and skills. I used Joomla for years. Not tried v4 yet which came out a week ago though. Joomla does have many pros though such as native multilingual function. This is not available as standard for wordpress and the plugins for it can severely slow things down.

PS: The backend of Joomla is extremely fast compared to Wordpress. Especially WooCommerce vs. Virtuemart is a crazy difference. Woocommerce = awesome, but Virtuemart is a million times faster in the backend.

The answer is : it depends on what you want at the end : look at the plug-ins you need (eventually their price) and choose the CMS that should be the easiest and fastest to implement.
Both are very good CMS.

Wordpress starts to prevail with four times more themes and plugins but id still go with Joomla
