Adobe Photoshop 2026 (v27.2.0) functions as the current Windows version of the global photo editing standard which Adobe launched in December 2025. The update delivers Dynamic Text layouts together with AVIF/JPEG XL support and cloud-powered Select Subject & Background Removal and stability improvements through an improved editing interface.

• The June release primarily includes Dynamic Text system functionality together with new file formats and generative AI improvements.

No it's not neccessary to disable the firewall. Sometimes it is to disable AV

How is Photoshop 2026 supposed to work if it's no longer a true standalone version? For quite some time now, it's only been available as a subscription with a corresponding contract with Adobe. I think that needs some explanation, don't you think?

You're totally right, officially it is subscription-only. Basically, this version has been modified to bypass the license check and the Creative Cloud login, forcing it to run locally like the old standalone versions used to.
The only trade-off is that since it doesn't connect to Adobe's servers, the AI features that rely on the cloud (like Generative Fill) are disabled. But for everything else, it works fully offline.
