you dont have control over shopify. all is cloud. i prefer prestashop or opencart.

If you have a nice server, Prestashop should be preferred, it is valuable that it is flexible and free. By using the plugins and templates on this forum you can get a nice looking and working shop for little or no free.

It would depend on your skill base. Shopify is much more simpler to us for someone without experience as Prestashop does require a low to medium level of usage. Also, shopify is a SaaS, so you are charged for being able to use it and are limited by what can be done in their environment.

PrestaShop is better and cheaper if you know how to work with it, while Shopify is just more easy to use.
PrestaShop is quite unstable sometimes, usually when adding many modules, while Shopify charges you monthly for nearly everything you want to add to the shop in the functionality department.
