Curious about anyones thoughts on the new Joomla 5, is it worth migrating?
What differences have you seen?

Yes, should check hosting provider for support
MySQL recommended ver. 8.1 or minimal ver. 8.0.13

Same check
PHP recommended ver. 8.2 or minimal ver. 8.1.0

I haven't MySQL in current hosting plan, only cloud version with extra pay.

I migrated to Joomla 5 with no problems. I only had to ask the hoster to update the OS version. I didn't notice any differences from Joomla 4. Although, as it seems to me, the site and the admin area began to work a little faster. But this is more likely due to the latest versions of php and mysql.
Upgrade of course need to update. In the future there will be fewer problems with the transition to Joomla 6.

Well, because MySQL 5.7 is just dead in case you didn't heard about it.... Oracle is no longer updating MySQL 5.7 because it reached End of Life. Only MySQL 8 is being maintained and patched. Don't like it? MariaDB is just as good with even more releases and EOL versions.

Thank you for idea. But I haven't MariaDB in my current hosting provider services. Will ask about upgrade. Thank you very much

Well, I updated a couple of website to Joomla 5 locally, using XAMPP, and to be honest I find no differences at all from Joomla 4.
However, many extensions/plugins are not compliant with it.
My first update attempt, made ignoring all the warnings failed and the website crashed.
Right now, I'm missing a couple of updated extensions to update my production website, so I'm still waiting, but I did it locally disinstalling those extensions and, as I wroe, I find no differences with Joomla 4....

Cheers,
Ale

Sooner or later we will all be forced to update on J5 from J4, so it's time to make strategies and check out list of compatible plugins... Until everything is compatible I'm not migrating.

You need to see if your host is fully compatible, and if your extensions are compatible too... if not fo not upgrade..

It will be a miracle if all components which are at least fairly common gets upgraded to support J5 until 2025. For example, K2 still doesn't have version that works on J4.

K2 will never get J4, we can hope that they will pickup for J5.

I updated it to J5 and found it to be ok. There is not much difference compared to J4.

I'm sticking with 4 for now commercially and testing 5 in the background. Had some issues moving up to 5 so I'll hold back until it's more stable. Time is money and unhappy clients aren't fun.
