PrestaShop 9 marks a significant milestone in the evolution of one of the world’s most popular open-source e-commerce platforms. As online shopping continues to grow exponentially, PrestaShop 9 aims to provide merchants with a faster, safer, and more scalable solution for building successful online stores.

🔍 What is PrestaShop?

PrestaShop is a free, open-source e-commerce solution used by over 300,000 stores worldwide. Known for its flexibility, strong community, and extensive module ecosystem, it allows merchants to create highly customizable online shops without paying monthly fees.

🚀 What’s New in PrestaShop 9?

Here’s a breakdown of the most anticipated features and improvements in PrestaShop 9:

1. Symfony Upgrade to v6

PrestaShop 9 upgrades its core framework to Symfony 6, ensuring better performance, long-term support, and modern coding practices. This results in faster loading times, increased stability, and future-ready architecture.

2. Headless and API-First Capabilities

With a more advanced API-first architecture, PrestaShop 9 enables smoother integrations with third-party services, mobile apps, and headless CMS platforms like Vue.js or React. This makes it ideal for merchants looking for omnichannel strategies or advanced customizations.

3. Improved Back Office UX

The admin interface is redesigned for a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. Tasks like product editing, order management, and module configuration are now more streamlined, reducing the learning curve for new users.

4. Security Enhancements

PrestaShop 9 focuses heavily on modern security practices, including better password hashing, protection against SQL injections, CSRF, and XSS attacks. It's a safer choice for both small merchants and enterprise-level e-commerce platforms.

5. Native Multistore Improvements

The multistore functionality is more powerful than ever, offering better control over catalogs, themes, pricing, and localization across multiple shops from a single back office.

6. Modernized Theme Development

Themes are now based on Bootstrap 5, and PrestaShop 9 introduces better support for Twig, making it easier for developers to create responsive, customizable themes that load faster and perform better.

🎯 Why Upgrade to PrestaShop 9?

  • Future-proof your store with modern tech
  • Improve SEO with faster page speeds and cleaner code
  • Enhance user experience for both admins and customers
  • Increase conversions through improved mobile performance and UX
  • Get stronger community and developer support

⏳ When Will PrestaShop 9 Be Released?

The official release of PrestaShop 9 is expected in late 2025, with alpha and beta versions already being tested by the community. Merchants are advised to prepare now by auditing their themes and modules for compatibility.

🛠️ Final Thoughts

PrestaShop 9 isn’t just a version upgrade—it’s a modernization of the entire platform. With cutting-edge features, improved performance, and enhanced developer capabilities, it sets the stage for a new era in open-source e-commerce.

If you're running an online store or planning to launch one, now is the perfect time to explore what PrestaShop 9 has to offer.

Prestashop is losing many users, in my opinion it has practically nothing changed in several versions, for example, something as basic as being able to put a video in the thumbnails of the product page or in the list of products of the categories, you have to continue paying for it with modules that are outdated and have stopped developing like so many others in prestashop from version 7 onwards. shopify is the great beneficiary of all this.

I think that Prestashop is better in every version. In all versions, have a very stable releases. I use it from 15 years and for free software for e-commerce is more than perfect. Wait for stable 9.0...
